The National Alliance for the Regenerative Vegetable Oil Sector (NARVOS) marked an important milestone with the launch of its Odisha Chapter at a state-level event held in Bhubaneswar on 24 November 2025. The launch signifies a strategic expansion of NARVOS at the state level, aimed at accelerating the adoption of regenerative agriculture practices in one of India’s most agro-ecologically diverse and resource-rich regions.

Odisha occupies a unique position in India’s agricultural landscape. The state has approximately 11.7 lakh hectares of rice fallow land, offering significant opportunities for diversification into oilseeds and other climate-resilient crops. Combined with ten distinct agro-climatic zones, Odisha presents ideal conditions for promoting region-specific regenerative farming models that can restore soil health, improve water efficiency, and enhance farmer incomes. In recent years, the state has also witnessed a steady expansion of cotton and groundnut cultivation, further strengthening its relevance for sustainable vegetable oil production.

The launch of the Odisha Chapter reflects NARVOS’s vision of decentralised, state-driven action, aligned with national and global sustainability goals under the EU–India Partnership Programme on Promotion of Regenerative Agriculture Practices for a Food-Secure & Climate-Resilient Future. By establishing a dedicated state platform, NARVOS aims to bring together state government departments, farmer producer organisations (FPOs), industry players, research institutions, and civil society organisations to collectively unlock Odisha’s untapped oilseed potential through regenerative approaches.
